This product was devised with large homes in mind. The audio system is top notch and has a talkback option. This baby monitor has such a strong microphone that it will allow your baby to hear your voice no matter the distance. Another useful bonus is that the monitor is overall easy to set up.

The camera offers a pan/tilt/zoom system which allows your point of view to shift and follow your baby’s movement. The motorola mbp36xl also has a 5-inch screen and night vision. This is perfect for parents who want to see what their little one is up to during the night.

The best feature of the product is its impeccable audio quality. You can hear your little one, and they can clearly hear you. This allows you to lower the volume and still be able to communicate through the device.

Excellent Display

The large monitor display is undoubtedly what makes this model shine. Although it’s not a touchscreen, it definitely provides the user with a better view than the standard models sporting 3.5″ displays. Furthermore, the size of its display also makes the 4x digital zoom function far more practical.

However, it should also be mentioned that the picture quality of this baby monitor drops down as you move away from the camera. The reason behind this is the display’s resolution – 320 pixels by 240 pixels. In other words, Summer Infant In View 2.0 may have a larger display than the competition, but it keeps the same resolution found on smaller screens.

Adjusting the brightness and the volume of the display is very easy. Also, it’s possible to completely turn off the display’s video picture whenever you want (when going to bed, for example).

The Camera

The camera found on this model uses infrared night vision. This makes it very easy to see the child in both low light and complete darkness. In case the light is too dim, the camera automatically switches to the night mode.

Another great thing about this model’s camera system is that it’s fully expandable. It’s possible to pair up to four cameras, which is perfect for families with multiple children. The additional cameras are identical to the one included in the package and are sold separately.

Battery Life

Due to the fact that it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles, this model boasts an excellent battery life. With the screen on, the Summer Infant Wide View 2.0 can be used between nine and ten hours in total. With the screen put to standby mode, this number can be bumped up to 12 hours. The model uses beeping sounds to alert the user that it’s time for charging. It takes around six hours to fully charge the battery.

Signal Strength

The range of this baby monitor is a solid one, although a bit below average. The manufacturer claims that its wireless 2.4 GHz FHSS signal can reach up to 180 meters. Realistically, however, this boils down to 20 meters inside the house, with four walls separating the parent from the baby.

Two-Way Communication

Summer Infant In View 2.0 allows the parent to talk to the baby through the camera speaker. This two-way communication function is very easy to access. You only need to press and hold the dedicated microphone button on the monitor. Since the sound only goes to the currently-selected camera, you won’t be risking waking up the baby in the other room.

Additional Features

Minimal Security Breach Risks

With this model, the risks of security breach and hacking are minimal. The reason behind this is in the fact that it uses an encrypted FHSS radio signal. It’s next to impossible for someone to break into your In View 2.0 through the Wi-Fi connection.

Simplicity of Use

This model undoubtedly makes up for its shortcomings with simplicity. Setting it up can be done in minutes, while the basic menu will never cause you to get lost in settings. The controls are straightforward – on/off, volume, zoom, nightlight, and a menu button.

What’s Wrong With the Product?

  • No Music

Even though it includes the two-way communication function, this monitor comes without any music or lullabies.

  • No Temperature Sensors

Another downside is the lack of any humidity or temperature sensors. With many competing models sporting this feature, it’s unfortunate that it’s not included on Summer Infant Wide View 2.0.

  • No Remote Tilt/Pan

Even though it’s possible to use the remote zoom with this unit, the remote tilt/pan function is not included. However, the fact that the model comes with a wide camera angle lens makes this feature somewhat unnecessary.

In our Summer Infant Wide View review, we took a closer at this model’s features and pointed out its benefits and shortcomings. Although not flawless, the unit seems to be a solid choice for the price it comes at. Its most significant advantage is undoubtedly the large screen, as well as the excellent battery life and the camera expandability. It’s one of the best options in case you have multiple cribs in one room.
