When it comes to affordable breast pumps, choosing one that won’t fail you after just a few weeks of use is a pretty hard task. The market is filled with cheap, knock-off models that usually break or just stop working – and you certainly don’t want that to happen.

That’s why we decided to have an in-depth look at a model that’s, in our opinion, an excellent choice for those with smaller budgets. Its name is the Nibble Comfort Breastfeeding Pump, which is very popular with moms all around the world and undoubtedly deserves a full review. Let’s do it!

Features of Nibble Comfort Breastfeeding Pump

  • The Assembly

All those that used breast pumps before will find assembling this model pretty easy and self-explanatory. Those that didn’t will have help in the form of well-written user manual with all the necessary instructions. There’s also the contact information for those that might need further assistance with the assembly.

  • The Design

Even though it comes at an affordable price, this pump sports a pretty smooth design – it looks like one of those expensive, premium models. It combines the vivid green color with the standard clinical white and looks quite sleek.

It’s a hospital-grade model with a very powerful motor, manufactured from a BPA-free material (meaning that it contains no harmful chemicals), along which you’ll also be getting the 4oz bottle, the bottle base, a silicone filler (helps with the suctioning), an AC adapter, as well as the breast horn cover. It’s a pretty well-rounded package, and one we certainly didn’t expect in this price category.

One thing we really like about this model is that it comes with an LCD screen. It has the option to show you the timer which tells for how long you’ve been pumping. This is a very convenient feature, and also something we’d like to see on all other models – no matter in which category price they’re in.

  • The Comfort

Another thing that surprised here is the overall level of comfort that this pump can provide a mother with. The breast shield that’s included in the package is a quite comfortable to wear, and the reason behind that is that it was made out of silicone rather than plastic. It also has a soft massage cushion that gives the mom a natural stimulating effect, which, in turn, helps with the milk expression.

Our testers were quite pleased with the comfort of the Nibble pump – it undoubtedly offers a lot of it for the price that it comes at.

  • The Efficiency

This pump features a 2-phase technology – there are the stimulation and the let-down phase, which are pretty standard when it comes to battery-operated models. The stages are, of course, entirely adjustable, and you can adjust them via the easy-to-operate “+” and “-” buttons. This ability to adjust the phases and the suction strength (10 different levels) can be quite handy sometimes – like when your baby is going through a growth spurt and the whole process gets to be painful.

Just like we expected, the model has been designed to imitate the sucking patterns of infants, which is guaranteed to stimulate the milk flow. While it’s working, the model is whisper-quiet, which is quite impressive if we take its price into consideration. Over the years, we have reviewed a plenty of expensive pumps that were just too noisy for our taste, and this cheap little model beats them in that field almost effortlessly. Pretty impressive, wouldn’t you say?

Another feature we liked is the interchangeable power sources. Even though this is a battery-operated model (4 x AA), the box that it comes in also includes a 6V 1a AC adapter that will allow you to use it without batteries. Another great thing is that the device is fully compatible with the popular Medela bottles and bottle nipples, and that’s quite handy due to the poor customer service of the Gland (the manufacturer) – there’s just one bottle in the package and it’s hard to find and purchase some additional ones.

  • The Hygiene

The Nibble is a closed-system pump, which means that it’s not possible for the condensation to appear in its tubing. The unique design of this model prevents the milk back-flow, so you won’t have to worry about the mold appearing in the tubes – and that’s always a big plus in our book.

We like the fact that the horn comes with a dust cover that helps in keeping it dust-free and clean. It keeps the bottle-nipple and the content of the bottle clean before using it – it’s just something we’d like to see on all other models.

What’s wrong with the product?

  • The manufacturer has a poor customer service

The company that constructed this pump is not a well-known one, which means that taking advantage of the warranty or finding spare parts can be a genuinely bothersome task. Fortunately, some Medela parts are compatible with this model – the manufacturer probably made it like that for a reason.

  • Some of our readers reported malfunctions

Even though we had no significant issues with this model during the testing, we’ve received reports from our readers in which they told us about the issues they had with the pump. There were just two such reports, but that was enough for us to take it as a flaw.

Conclusion

For us, this breast pump is one of the biggest surprises of this year. Even though it comes at a very affordable price, it still sports a ton of very useful features that make it a very tempting offer. It’s probably the best budget-friendly option on the market right now, and we can do nothing else but recommend it.
